  • How to spot a hacker

    Hello Community,

we regularly get complaints about players who use programs to gain an advantage in PvP. However, this only turns out to be true in very few cases and some time ago we received the suggestion to explain to you how you can better recognize hackers.
We think this is a good idea and want to dispel a few myths right away.

First of all, an overview of what is (regarding PvP) as a matter of principle not possible:
    • seeing players in hide mode
    • manipulating proc chances
    • manipulation of autohit or skill damage
    • manipulation of skill values, i.e. HP healing, GK / MP consumption, etc.
    • manipulation of stats, i.e. player and equipment values
Such cases can only occur due to bugs and thus potential bug abuse. If you are sure that you have experienced something like this, please report the error to the server management via the ticket system in order to prevent additional exploitation until the fix.

Where it gets more difficult is the issue of movement. Some will know it from official servers, where you're sometimes getting pulled back. That's when movement speed and position monitoring triggers a false alarm and intervenes.
Our monitoring, however, does not actively intervene and therefore does not disrupt the flow of the game. The same goes for fly hacks, or when someone apparently crosses obstacles.
So if you notice anything in this area, it may actually have to do with a hack. Despite our logs, videos of evidence are always important, as no automatic detection is perfect (see previously mentioned false positives on official servers). And of course, any bugs can be identified more easily then.

The other big issue is attack speed. This is stat-dependent and therefore cannot be manipulated directly, as mentioned above.
But there is also an indirect factor, namely the animation duration of attacks. This is known as "NoAni" which most of you have heard before.
The situation here is similar to the issue of movement, but not only is logged, but also actively prevented. Of course, there is always room for improvement for detections and possible bugs that may be involved. So if something strikes you as strange, first watch your recorded video yourself and, ideally, get a second opinion. A hack cannot be ruled out, but it is unlikely.

As you can see, there is much to be considered in recognizing and distinguishing. And most of the times, overlooked factors and other misconceptions are the reason why a fight looked like something was wrong. But to list them all here would unfortunately go beyond the scope.

Hopefully this summary has helped you a little and if something is unclear or should be added, you are welcome to let us know in-game or via conversation.

    Best regards,
    your Beyond Aion Team
